Choose what you want to give a f*ck about.

Being comfortable with being different doesn't mean being indifferent. Indifferent people do not give a f*ck about anything. Those who are comfortable with being different, separate the important from the unimportant, and only give a f*ck about what’s important.

Additionally, being comfortable with being different means not giving up in the face of adversity and being confident in your abilities to achieve your goals.

Keep in mind that sometimes, you may try your hardest but still fail. Even if you do not get the results you were aiming for, as long as you truly tried your best, you will be much happier than if you hadn’t at all.

  1. Do what you feel is right and necessary.
Ask yourself, “What do I need to do to get what I want out of life while still staying true to myself?” Then, do it. Don’t worry about doing things differently from others—you need to do what is right for you.
  2. Recognize that you cannot give a f*ck about everything.
Similarly, you can’t not give a f*ck about anything. You must give a f*ck about something - you get to choose what that is! As you mature, you will realize what is and what is not f*ckworthy .
  3. Give a f*ck about something more important than adversity.
Focus on your goals and stop giving a f*ck about the obstacles in your path. Soon enough, you will barely notice them!

Probably the most misunderstood thing about this book is that it's not about not giving a f*ck (as the title says), but to give a f*ck about things that are meaningful to me. Not to people around me, society, etc. To me.
For example, when everyone is crazy about football, and this is like a national sport, I don't really care. Instead, becoming a better person is more important to me, and here is where I invest my time.
Reminds me of some other advice I got once: "if everything is important, then nothing is." Really links back to the idea of what you want to be remembered for, or in terms of tasks, what is really going to shift the needle?
