Choose a notetaking app based on your notetaking style

Choose a notetaking app based on your notetaking style

from Building a Second Brain by Tiago Forte

How to Apply This

  1. Identify your note-taking style.
Evaluate your notetaking style and identify where you fall into these categories:

    • Architect - you prefer organizing, inventing, and creating your own systems.
    • Gardener - you prefer linking your ideas and expanding concepts.
    • Librarian - you love making lists and compiling useful resources.
    • Student - you use your notes for short-term goals, such as writing a paper or taking a test.
  2. Choose the notetaking app you will use based on your style.

    • Architect - Notion or Craft
    • Gardener - Obsidian or Rome
    • Librarian - Evernote or Microsoft Onenote
    • Student - Apple Notes or Google Keep
  3. Download your chosen app on your device.
Familiarize yourself with how it works as you can use these apps for the long term. Remember that you can switch to another app if your initially chosen app isn’t the best option for you.
