This alternating nostril breathing technique is known as Surya Bheda. After even a few rounds, you feel great. You sense an immediate and potent clarity and relaxation, even a sense of floating. This practice can be used to supercharge your focus and to balance the body and mind.
Place the thumb of your right hand gently over your right nostril and the ring finger of that same hand on the left nostril.
The forefinger and middle finger should rest between the eyebrows.
- Close the left nostril with the thumb and inhale through the right nostril very slowly.
- At the top of the breath, pause briefly, holding both nostrils closed. Then lift just the thumb to exhale through the left nostril.
- At the natural conclusion of the exhale, hold both nostrils closed for a moment. Then inhale again through the right nostril.
- Continue in through the right and out through the left nostril for five to ten cycles.
