Become a bottom-line thinker

Instructions

  1. Find the bottom line.
Discard your "wants" and focus on the goal's outcomes. Remove any politics that could influence your vision and set aside any emotions that might impair your judgment. What do you really want to accomplish? What are you compelled to do when you eliminate the unnecessary? What has to happen?
  2. Develop a strategic plan to achieve the bottom line.
Once you know the bottom line, you can make a plan to get there. Find the most important parts or functions that must work to get the most value and achieve the goal. If the total of your smaller goals doesn't add up to the desired bottom line, you need to change your strategy.
  3. Adjust the priorities of team members based on the bottom line.
Once you have a plan, align your employees with it. All team members should know the objective and their role in attaining it. They must realize how their bottom line affects the company.
  4. Maintain one system and regularly review results.
Never mix several systems or switch between them often. Stick with one system instead. Make a bottom line thinking a way of thinking and living and incorporate it into your working system.
