Designing Your Life
Purpose (life)
Be clear about your life path
from Designing Your Life: How to Build a Well-Lived, Joyful Life by Bill Burnett, Dave Evans
How to Apply This
- Reflect on your Workview
Spend 30 minutes writing down a brief description of your Workview. Aim for about 250 words. Ask yourself these questions: Why do I work? What does work mean to me? How does work relate to me, others, and society? What makes work good or worthwhile? What does money have to do with work? Are growth and fulfillment necessary in work? Use these questions to clarify your philosophy of work. - Reflect on your Lifeview
Spend no more than 30 minutes writing down a description of your Lifeview. Keep it under 250 words. Ask yourself: Why am I here? What is the purpose of my life? How does the individual relate to others in society? What is good? What is evil? If there is a higher power, what is its impact on my life? What role do joy, love, strife, and sorrow play in life? - Compare your Workview and Lifeview
Read your Workview and Lifeview and identify whether they are coherent. Ask yourself: Where do my views on work and life align? Where do they conflict? Does my Workview drive my Lifeview or vice versa? How? Write down your thoughts. Feel free to edit your views to create more harmony between your Workview and Lifeview.
