Keep your team accountable, motivated, and engaged

from Measure What Matters by John E. Doerr

How to Apply This

  1. Set OKRs.
Have your team members set their individual objectives and outline the key results to measure progress. Direct them in aligning these OKRs with the overall team ones.

  2. Make them public.
Be transparent. Ensure that everyone on the team can see one another’s OKRs, as well as the overall team’s.

  3. Measure and track progress.
Use apps that track OKR progress, and ensure that each team member’s tracking is visible to them.

  4. Check in regularly.
Encourage your team members to check in on their tracking regularly, ideally weekly.

  5. Hold one-on-ones.
Discuss each team member’s progress with them regularly, ideally monthly.

  6. Report progress.
Have regular team meetings where you report overall team progress in achieving objectives. These stats should already be available via dashboards provided by modern OKR apps, and team members should have access to them.
