Increase your threshold for difficulty

Increase your threshold for difficulty

from Discipline Is Destiny: The Power of Self-Control by Ryan Holiday

How to Apply This

  1. Eliminate distractions.
Remove the things that hinder you from being more reflective such as watching too much TV, hanging out on social media, consistently snacking, etc. Give yourself time to reflect on how your life's going and determine what needs to be changed.
  2. Be a little harder on yourself.
Hold yourself to higher standards. Avoid justifying bad habits, and seek to deprive yourself of some everyday luxuries from time to time. Never settle for less. Push yourself to achieve more than you currently have.
  3. Be up and doing.
Get a headstart. Wake up early, and get straight out of bed — no snoozing! Grab the hour before daylight to work on your goals while everyone else is still asleep. Stay active afterward, accomplishing other important tasks.
  4. Treat your body rigorously.
Swim, lift weights, train in jiu-jitsu, take long walks, and do any other physical activities. As you build your muscle, you’re also building your willpower. More importantly, you’re building this willpower and strength while most people are not!
