Discover your Hedgehog Concept

Discover your Hedgehog Concept

from Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap... and Others Don't by James C. Collins

How to Apply This

  1. Build a Council.
A Council is a group of 5-12 people who will discuss the three aspects of a Hedgehog Concept.

  2. Identify what you can be the best in the world at.
List down all the things you believe you can be the best in the world at, as well as the things you cannot be the best at. Go through this process repeatedly with your Council until you come up with an answer.

  3. Identify what drives your economic engine.
The key driver or measurement of growth varies from company to company. Discuss with your Council and identify your key metrics. For example, you may choose to measure your growth based on how many customers make repeat purchases.

  4. Identify your passion.
We should only do those things that we are passionate about. Passion is often determined by what the company stands for. Sit down with your council and discover what your passion could be.
