Create an idea behind your work that fuels emotional commitment.

Too many people hate their jobs because the work doesn’t fulfill any deeper meaning for them. Such jobs don’t appeal to their soul. So if you create meaning in your work, you will feel happier and more fulfilled. It is easy to go the extra mile when your work serves a deeper meaning.

Instructions

  1. Define the bigger purpose or idea behind your work.
Your job is to create meaning in your work, whether you own a business or work for someone else.  For example, a firefighter’s purpose might be, “I don’t want anyone to lose their husband, wife, or children. So, my job is to save lives.”
  2. Remind yourself of it every day.
Write it down in a diary where you have written your short-term and long-term goals and review it every day.
