Writing to yourself is one of the most effective ways to access your inner world of feelings. When you write to yourself, you do not have to worry about being judged by others, and you can freely express what you truly feel.

When you go back and read your letters, you will gain a deeper understanding of yourself.


  1. Grab a pen and a piece of paper, and write a letter to yourself.
    Listen to your own thoughts and let their flow take over. Don’t worry about being “right” or being judged by others; simply write.
  2. Go back and reread what you wrote.
    When you are ready, go back and read your letter to yourself. You may learn about parts of yourself you didn’t know existed.
